just how much mileage can you get out a single loop? both pablo cahn and cesar merveille seem to know the answer. if only these guys had turned their talents towards automotive engineering, we might have vastly more fuel-efficient cars by now, and an end to global warming. but we can take consolation, at least, in the heat they bring to the dancefloor. cahn and merveille worked together on cadenza 39, here they each take a side in a friendly contest to see who can go deeper.

label owner donga met blake when both djd at brightons forward thinking drum n bass night carbon spinning similar shades of the deeper end of dubstep. this lead to the idea of hooking up in the studio, and whilst initial experiments at 140bpm were promising, it wasnt until they decided to lower the tempos to housier speeds that their sound clicked into place. this sound is a balanced fusion of soulful house, deep textured techno and rhythms absorbed from garage, funky and broken beat. these 3 immaculate tracks have a simple appeal but also contain many layered sonic details for the closer listener.

just when it was getting hard to bear anymore lo-fi, dub inspired techno records - along come producers like skudge and newcomer mrsk. both from sweden and now befriended. both turn saidgenre into kick ass, peak time productions that funk like crazy.black keith definitely has thatdrive and swing and groove we love so much. close to me is a little deeper and more classy (detroit), yet still grooves like a motherlicker.. a classic techno release!

new dubstep label dropping with some sick re-works and no better start is a re rub of aphexs classic >on< keeping to the original with that classic melodic sound but bringing it bang up to date ...this is one for all apx collectors and no doubt many djs liking the more deeper techy dubstep flavours.....superdub ..not to be missed

>echoes #2< starts in detroit with an outstanding soulful techno remix from underground resistance and a killer hip hop redo from newcomer dial 81. deetron, one of still musics favorite artist, invades the b side and delivers two essential deeper than deep house mixes.

20th release with music from old and new friends. bjak (eargasmic records) and julio bishop (realdeep recordings) are opening the fire with their >fashion (bc deeper luv mix)<, a late night percussive track to wake up the floor if it gets sleepy. the a2 is for ernie (minuendo recordings) and its called the alcoholics where mixes indian prayers and spiritual chords ... but make no mistakes, its just the effect of the alcohol. in the b side kez ym continues his race to be one of the best producers coming from japan lately. his track pebbles is cool a follow up to his previous releases on yore records. ordell (minuendo recordings) goes black and soulful on the blackholics.

jack this is a typically powerful and funky slice of peak-time techno from tom hades. the main hook comes from a big descending siren that is worked in around the groove and succession of drops and builds.
loco & jam (1605, mb elektronics) are selected for remix duties fresh from winning best new artist at the 2010 irish dance music awards. their mix takes the groove deeper but still retains the incendiary edge.
barnes bachelor rounds off the package with its linear, driving groove and gentle melodic shifts that lift up the darker, brooding undertones of the bassline. a subtle but effective track for the longer sets / early hours.

here comes edwards follow-up ep. this time he goes a slightly deeper and more direct. it might be the purest music we ve ever heard from the berlin-based producer. all the crazy clubgigs are manifested into hi music now. of course still with the classical edward style somewhere between dark minimal and trancy deephouse aesthetics. >bush of crows< is somewhat of a siginature edward track. but a very rough one this time. with a comfortable paranoia, this track unfolds itself into a little peak time extravaganza. on the flip, he cools everything down with a warm house tune called >the ghetto< and he adds a certain >blockparty romantic< to it... b2. is once again one of those more minimal edward tracks were he masters to be on point with just the core essence o sounds. edward remains a real romantic for sure...

tornado wallace is the alter ego of a certain mr lewie day, hailing from melbourne and having recently started making great waves following excellent releases on murmur, 8bit and herzlich. tornado wallace pushes down the deeper, detroit-inspired route which is why he approached us here at delusions with these very special tracks.

mowars 6th release is delivered by label boss franco cangelli, 2 solid deep techno cuts accompanied by an exquisite mlz treatment. >paper cut< is a smooth and hypnotizing dubbed out techno track for the deeper dancefloor moments. stripped down and most efficient, paper cuts intoxicating dreamy pad sucks you in from the start and gets you hooked on the dubby chords and an addictive bassline. simplicity and solid deepness!
>when they come< on the other hand is a darker affair with ominous pads and fierce kickdrums backed up by deep basses and funky schizoid sounds. dark detroitish techno for brainwashed dancefloors. mlz (half of pendle coven), turns paper cut into a darker cut. dark acidic basslines, a pinch of robert hood mixed with the deep dubby side of the original. very captivating until the very end of the track. another strong mowar cut!

the detroit duo known as reference focuses on the soul of electronic music, not the hype, staying true while working to promote the expression of underground music and dance culture. luke hess is a name synonymous with a new wave of detroit techno producers, but his roots go deeper than that. his continued dedication to musicianship and his natural talent as a dj have allowed him to release music on some of the most respected labels in the genre, and play some of the most prestigious clubs in the world. brian kage is the founder of the record label beretta music. along with a countless number of successful releases, brian s experience as a producer, dj, and label head has helped catapult the careers of some of today s brightest and best artists in the dance music community.

it is no secret that the 1980s was probably one of the best decades. 1986 was in particular a very memorable and historic year across the world. it also happens to be the year delete was born and the name of the groove laden a-side. >1986< does not boast any sci-fi effects or other worldly sounds, it does however have one of the catchiest bass lines out there. >our generation< pours a real telltale chicago house vibe, complete with derrick carter style vocals and a bone-chillingly infectious four-note pad melody. this is eyes closed, hands in the air euphoric house. the 12 inch rounds out with delete still showcasing his knack for creating funky bass lines with, >lunchbox<. this number runs a bit deeper than the first two tracks, as it is rolled along by little percussion edits and snippets that evoke a more subtle laid-back vibe.

taking the freaky chicago sound down a couple of notches to the deeper realms of jazzy house. heavenly vocals, light broken beats, rolling live bass and touching rhodes progressions. the flip dives deeper into an instrumental version of the latter and is none the less satisfying.

maybe >grandfathers clock< is the most house influenced release from the german duo piemont so far. going more deep dirty and housy this time... they turn towards a more relaxed and slack approach. chopping up bits of vocals and sounds, tight and funky, this is what piemont is all about. >running mirror< refers to giorgio moroder respectively hi energy influences and is a hypnotic cool groove monster that will convert spaces into soulful places. frederic and christian have released a good dozen of records now and have been very successful. with >peak time tracks< such as >carbonat< being played by the whole lot of ibiza djs and big names around the world. >running mirror< definitely manifests a turning point in their musical spectrum... to deeper grounds of electronic dance and will get other djs involved in their manifold world of music.

deeplabs is a new record label out of detroit created and managed by detroit producer and dj luke hess. after several highly successful releases on labels such as fxhe, echocord, beretta grey, & kontra-musik and celebrated remixes on ornaments, pong musiq, and modelisme, luke has decided to take his style of deep detroit techno and root it firmly in the city that inspires his sound. deeplabs is a label created for the deeper, soulful, and experimental side of electronic music, with a clear vision of the dj and the dance-floor.

second release on the new ibadan offshoot, public service recordings. >life story< gets the ball rolling with some bumping disco-fueled peaktime house, with a strong female vocal dominating atop a bed of funky bass, stellar synth lines, and solid house beats. yohan squares >love of life< takes the mood a little deeper with some lush late night house, blending sweeping textured synth lines behind a deep bassline groove and shuffling late night house beats. on the reverse, julian jonahs >jealousy of lies< is a detroit-flavored late night houser, with textured synth lines, a stellar spoken male vocal, and laidback beats and bassline all combining perfectly. last up is >rey-d<, a deep late night track that utilizes some fairly bumping beats behind a minimal bassline and rich chords for some minimal floor grooves.

minicoolboyz come with a strong reputation firmly intact. their mix here further enhances this reputation as they take the mix on a deeper ride, bringing a spacey vibe to the funky original...

the amazing situation return with two sides of love – gangster love and sutra love. the gangster side is an amazing clash of a skit from american gangster (heavily inspired by the eddy grant produced >funky like a train< by the equals) with donna summer. the resulting blend is as inspiring and surprising as it is unlikely. but with their usual disregard for boundaries and rules, situation seamlessly melt the two original cuts together into a perfect slice of discoid boogie that absolutely sets fire to the dancefloor. on the flip side, love of a deeper and groovier type oozes from sutra love. its a case of yet more top class, bass led disco action thats firmly focussed on maximum dancefloor reaction. this is without a doubt one of the best situations ever! and with heavy releases on disco deviance and their own imprint already under the belt that really is saying something.

thirtyonetwenty is the international dialling code to reach amsterdam. its also the name of amsterdams hot label run by sandy huner, who co-founded techno imprint 100% pure in 1992.
for the 13th release on thirtyonetwenty we welcome gabriele baldi, a young, talented italian whose recent release on label bitten got heavy play from top djs such as oxia, ricardo villalobos and 2000 and one, causing havoc on the dancefloors.
gabrieles passion for music began at a very early age, from piano to rock, blues to soul, funk to 80s … his evolving eclectic musical background provides him with the foundations for his productions now – heavily influenced with deep, house and acid-funk sounds.
this time he is back with two grooving funky (tech) housetracks >all i want< and >crash love<. amsterdams own tom ruijg (bangbang!) finishes it off with a deeper house-take of >all want<.

minority boss hector moralez teams up with life long friend oscar miranda for a belting 3 track ep on minority. >last of an era< has a killer bassline and a hypnotic vocal that will keep the floor moving all night. >for realz< is on the deeper tip and the boys uses spacey keys & trippy vocals to devastating effect. last but not least is >about time<. this sounds like derrick carter style beats meets a mood ii swing style bass line, nuff said. boom!

aniligital music is back at it with anthony mansfield and tal m. klein and their evil ways! building upon the successes of their previous collaborations, the villainous duo raises the stakes and take things deeper with this enigmatically titled three tracker. ciento ocho is spanish for 108, the tempo of the first track on the ep. a creepy crawly builder with 8-bit roots that culminate in a huge funk breakdown with an insidious bass hook (if you have any doubt,just fast forward 3 minutes into the track) next up is desayuno en timpanis which we think means breakfast at timpanis in spanish. needless to say this ones heavy on the percussive elements, including of course lots and lots of timpani drums. desayuno en timpanis gets going pretty quickly and doesnt let up. check the flanged upright bass breakdown for extra bigness! purely non-stop huge sound system busting dancefloor action. speaking of floor fillers, have we shown you our tiger bomb? bomba de tigre is the definitely the deepest track on the ep, but lest anthony and tal rest on the laurels of their 808 kicks and 303 basslines, this tigre is a stalking beast that explodes in a vicious classic house attack!

james ruskin is considered a veteran producer these days, after co-founding blueprint records in 1996 with richard polson, and releasing a string of classics on blueprint, meta and tresor labels to name but a few. 2009 saw ruskin re-invent his sound, a far deeper bass driven aesthetic, with killer releases on sandwell district, token and the newly reformed blueprint imprint.

here is finally the first single from yakine, a close member to the eklo family. after his featuring on the hooksey vol.1, he gave us four tracks which he worked specially for this ep. yakine explored a new sound, some more melodic and deeper works, different from his usual stuff. captor of sin, the main track here. we find yakine in a more pop dimension with the vocals. the metric rhythm is mix it up with sub and perky shuffle grooves, everything harmonized through a lead ambiance made of weird synts & pads. then shirp, lead from synths, the track go on in the same vibe, more excentric and percussive, rounded beat, and a slap bass, 80s funk type. on the flip, temptation, a more singular track, a great detroit techno influenced, with his unusual keys and some indus sounds. the story ending with aferone, a deep and sensitive balad, overhang by a poetic piano coming and going all along. solid and versatile 12 inch.

in case you havent figured it out yet, kompakt loves tradition and as you know, we have had a longstanding affair with our beloved japanese producer extraordinaire hiroshi watanabe aka kaito. his 2009 full length trust (komcd74) showcased a deeper, more matured side to kaitos now classic sound.
so with every kaito album comes the custom - the beatless versions. that said, we proudly offer your ears and that was the way - watanabe effortlessly has brought together three of the lead tunes from trust through into the calm waters of his ambient bliss.

quantized goes deeper and hosts another young but already well known producer from greece called kreon, one of the most talented guys around the last years. at his 25 years old markos spanoudakis is already considered as a top-notch producer! he has released music on labels such as resopal, cecille, be chosen, robsoul, ... the present ep has 3 tracks, two original works from markos and a remix from michai popoviciu (highgrade, vukohila, level non zero). this is also the first time that quantized offers a special white-coloured vinyl.

hit the streets slams in from the start with a confident kick drum, using a collection of layered percussive elements and drums (check that cowbell) to create a solid groove. seductive vocal snippets give the track a focus throughout, whilst fritter artfully introduces fresh elements until its resolution. building chords, open hi-hats and a ripping old-school melody reminiscent of warehouse 303s keep boredom at bay. bonza. ridgee didgee steadily courses through deeper realms, again with that killer percussion. here not one but a variety of freaky vocals and playful samples co-habit a densely layered habitat of groove. feral elements are backed up by a driving aboriginal bassline, relentless til a brief half-time reprise. a limited 200 white vinyls are available.

columbian producer robert alzate a.k.a khomha, has been snapped up by us here at baroque... his seductive deep house is exactly the kind of sound we were looking for in 2010, and this first ep is perfect highlight of the deep throbbing, tech influenced house sounds that sucked is in. on the remix is incognet... denis zynchenko produced some great tracks under his incognet guise in 2009 and looks set to step it up again in 2010 - a powerfull driving slice of prog, that compliments the deeper original perfectly.

this man cant currently be stopped. following his releases through the 2nd season 2009 (>marvin” on compost, >smaul 06< & >smaul 07<) in january 2010 acid paulis >riverboat tour< came out. now, it seems he opens this years summer season with these two psychedelic thrilling tracks. even though he had been touring a lot with the notwist last year, acid pauli was pretty often an invited, musically refreshing guest in berlins minimal techno (what ever) scene. den mahlstrom rauf leaves no doubts about. great build up he does by keeping tension over five minutes to unlash finally the madness charge with a levitating reverse-ducking-compressed melody. den mahlstrom runter (a play on words of travelling on a boat and getting milled…) seems to be the return from the trip he gives on side a. it is the same track reworked. his musical drama goes faster but deeper under the cortex – but >how lucky a fate< deliverance comes at right time taking the track over to a known housy and deep realm.
